Download and install
On a Mac, one line installs it and the same line updates it. No account, no sign-in, nothing to configure before it works, and macOS opens it without a word. On Linux, take a package from the table below.
The install line
It fetches the signed package, checks it, installs it and gets out of the way. Run it again later and it updates in place.
curl -fsSL https://vobuda.com/install.sh | sh What you are downloading
The macOS figures are checked against the package itself every time this page is built. The four Linux packages, a .deb and an AppImage for Intel/AMD (amd64) and for ARM (arm64), are on the GitHub release of the same version, and their figures are copied from its checksum file.

Verify it yourself before you run it: shasum -a 256 vobuda-4.2.5-macos-*.pkg and compare against SHA256SUMS.txt, or on Linux sha256sum against the numbers above. A checksum nobody can check is worse than none, because it looks like care and is not.
Three ways in, in order of least trouble
The line
curl -fsSL https://vobuda.com/install.sh | sh installs it where vobuda already is, so there is one copy on the Mac. A fresh Mac gets your own Applications folder, ~/Applications, with no password; replacing a copy in /Applications asks for your password. The same line updates it, and nothing is left behind in your shell profile.
The package
Download the .pkg and double-click it. Because it is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarised, there is no cannot be verified dialogue and no trip through System Settings. Versions before 0.1.1 were signed with our own certificate and did warn.
Removing it
Drag Vobuda out of the folder it is in, /Applications or ~/Applications. Your settings stay in ~/.config/vobuda until you remove that folder too, which is deliberate: reinstalling should not cost you the themes and shortcuts you made. Vobuda also leaves its entries in Claude Code's and Codex's own settings, under ~/.claude and ~/.codex: hooks, a status line, an MCP server and a skill; remove them by hand if you want them gone. On Linux, remove the package with your package manager, or delete the AppImage.
Checking it is the file we signed
Two commands, both of them read-only. A checksum nobody checks is worse than none, because it looks like care and is not.
$ shasum -a 256 vobuda-4.2.5-macos-arm64.pkgbd0fd95af9760d5f63b0daae4cc66811560d987d90629b5cd33f62c06da1c584 # It should match this page and SHA256SUMS.txt exactly. $ pkgutil --check-signature vobuda-4.2.5-macos-arm64.pkgStatus: signed by a developer certificate issued by Apple 1. Developer ID Installer: Shifton Inc (L3LZXQV482) $ spctl -a -vv -t install vobuda-4.2.5-macos-arm64.pkgsource=Notarized Developer ID What happens the first time you run it
Two short questions first: how you work, which sets the window up to suit it, and where your work is kept. Then one window with one terminal block in it. Nothing else is open, because everything else is something you ask for. The language is the machine's until you choose one, and the same answer is given in the window and in the menu bar, which are asked separately.
On a Mac, four permissions are asked for, each only when you first use what needs it, never at launch: the microphone and speech recognition, the first time you press dictation; screen recording, the first time you capture a block as a picture; and access to Claude Code's sign-in in your Keychain, the first time an agent bar asks Anthropic for your Claude limits. Each question is answered by you and by nobody else. If you decline the microphone or screen recording, the feature says so in words rather than failing silently; without the Keychain, the bar shows no account limits.
Beyond those two questions there is no tour, no account step and no telemetry consent screen, because there is nothing behind any of them.
Versions, and what each one added
The program looks for a new version once a day and says so in a single strip. There is also Check for updates in its own menu.
| Rev | Date | What changed |
|---|---|---|
| 4.2.5 | 23 Oct 2026 | Remote work, a new module: the people a director hires can work on another Mac of yours; paths in the output are links on a plain click, and a click first asks where to open them |
| 4.2.4 | 22 Oct 2026 | the paths switch works at once in blocks already open; Monitor works on a Mac without a battery; the Director opens in your common folder and takes a project's rules once it is named; modules are checked for updates every 6 hours; twelve steadiness and safety fixes from the code audit |
| 4.2.3 | 16 Oct 2026 | plugins made for the previous version are offered in Plugins again |
| 4.2.2 | 15 Oct 2026 | tabs can be dragged to a new place, pinned tabs stay on the left; every team member's block shows the model it runs; most of the ways a plugin could reach your computer or home network are now closed |
| 4.2.1 | 8 Oct 2026 | bug fixes and Haiku 5.5 support |
| 4.2.0 | 7 Oct 2026 | a smaller download, one for each chip; what an agent's update brings; nothing runs by accident; the director's card; a question waits for you; your rules; each director works behind a closed door; a steadier team |
| 4.1.7 | 6 Oct 2026 | optimization of the program |
| 4.1.6 | 3 Oct 2026 | the window opens at once while settings are still coming down from iCloud Drive |
| 4.1.5 | 3 Oct 2026 | Cmd+K opens on the agents that wait for you; sleep a tab; menus of their own for tabs, blocks and the file list; continue in a fresh session with a handoff; review notes sent in one batch; the director's whole team set up in its panel and back after a restart; a team's block does only what a short list allows |
| 4.1.4 | 26 Sep 2026 | panels open by the dock; a row under every agent with its folder, files, skills and Stop; typing like the Claude app; the agent's cache kept warm; the director's workers each in a copy of their own; past conversations found by a word and named; reading aloud removed |
| 4.1.3 | 24 Sep 2026 | minor bug fixes |
| 4.1.2 | 24 Sep 2026 | the window keeps its shape; the program is a third smaller; settings are arranged by what you came to do; your data in one place; tabs come back after a restart and say what works in them; an agent's questions in your language |
| 4.1.1 | 23 Sep 2026 | a page can no longer give the program orders; the model menu waits for the agent to be ready; text reads on every theme and look; the Director decides by itself and its window stays yours; an agent keeps room to work; settings are found by your words |
| 4.1.0 | 23 Sep 2026 | plugins you install and remove whole; Design, to point at a live page and say what to change; and Director, a manager that holds a meeting, hires the agents a job needs and hands you the result |
| 4.0.6 | 19 Sep 2026 | every effort pill now works on every model row and for both agents; Codex has a model menu that does something at all; and each Codex model offers the levels it really has |
| 4.0.5 | 18 Sep 2026 | the effort button really changes the level of thinking; two windows no longer share dictation, signals, menus and the quit question; and the column of times stands only where something was written |
| 4.0.4 | 17 Sep 2026 | the input line no longer shows the minute the window opened: the cursor's row carries a time only while it is the newest thing on the screen |
| 4.0.3 | 17 Sep 2026 | the Integration button now hands the agent the whole message instead of the tail of its own brief |
| 4.0.2 | 17 Sep 2026 | the update strip stops offering the version you are already running, ordinary letters lose their red marks, and the time beside every line appears beside a full-screen agent too |
| 4.0.1 | 16 Sep 2026 | the time beside every line, the invisible in a text made visible, a folder that opens as a folder, and twenty-seven fixes from a reading of the whole program |
| 4.0.0 | 16 Sep 2026 | the restart after an update starts the new copy instead of bringing the old one forward, and after 0.3.13 the numbering starts clean at 4.0 |
| 0.3.13 | 15 Sep 2026 | a setting is found by what it does: a search field over the settings screen, every setting titled and explained in forty languages, and four switches that were missing; the command line and an MCP server let Claude Code and Codex change settings and drive the window, with an Integration button that tells an agent where it is; Quit asks once, in one window, about every window, and a server's page opens by itself in a second and a half |
| 0.3.12 | 15 Sep 2026 | Hebrew and Arabic read right to left in the block and come in a font that has them, the model button no longer reads a file name off a Claude Code screen, and fifteen faults found by a review of the whole program are fixed: past conversations under a folder with a non-Latin name, a crash that never reached the report, a busy flag shared by every agent, Quit that did not ask about an unsaved file, a shortcut that could not be recorded |
| 0.3.11 | 14 Sep 2026 | Claude Code and Codex updates are noticed again, an agent installed after vobuda is wired, the files panel climbs out of a folder that is gone, the model menu offers what the account has, and the restarted program comes back in front |
| 0.3.10 | 8 Sep 2026 | a page asked for from another window opens, instead of nothing happening at all |
| 0.3.9 | 8 Sep 2026 | vobuda runs on Linux: a .deb and an AppImage for Intel and ARM that reach Ubuntu 22.04 and newer, nothing on screen offering what the system cannot do, and a first question that no longer leaves an error in the terminal |
| 0.3.8 | 6 Sep 2026 | Commands answer in 281 ms where they took 600, output arrives at 3.8 MB/s where it was 1.1, and the snapshot settings ask one question instead of three |
| 0.3.7 | 6 Sep 2026 | Updating happens inside with nothing to watch, restarting asks once and brings this same program back, and a picture pasted or dropped reaches the agent as a picture |
| 0.3.6 | 6 Sep 2026 | The window stays where you left it if you say so, what an agent shows opens beside its own work, quiet hours as a list of intervals, and the whole window can be worked by name |
| 0.3.5 | 6 Sep 2026 | A block in a copy of the project, a shell that outlives the window, the fence and the snapshots, and every limit of your account in a menu |
| 0.3.4 | 6 Sep 2026 | The update goes to the end: the restart is offered and works; one copy of vobuda on the Mac |
| 0.3.3 | 6 Sep 2026 | The file panel follows the agent's edits, a failed turn says so, the cache on the line, the agent's own wait offered |
| 0.3.2 | 6 Sep 2026 | Claude Code's own continue comes first; a tab's task name is given once |
| 0.3.1 | 6 Sep 2026 | Your own status line and hooks named like ours are kept and chained, not replaced |
| 0.3.0 | 6 Sep 2026 | Signals for everything: a long command signals its finish like an agent and the window comes to it when the hands are off the keyboard, vobuda run for a command in a block with its exit code back, quiet hours by weekday, hold to talk, Ollama's models from the machine, and the update in place with a restart offered. |
| 0.2.10 | 6 Sep 2026 | Several agents: the board of agents behind the bar's light, tabs named by the task, btw for a question beside the work, git's marks on the file list with a file's changes as a block, and recent folders where a folder is asked for. |
| 0.2.9 | 6 Sep 2026 | The answer, seen: a picture, a chart or a PDF opens as a picture beside the agent, a Markdown file as a page with a table of contents, a path in the output is a link in any alphabet, a pasted screenshot becomes a file, and the agent is told at the start of its session that it can show rather than describe. |
| 0.2.8 | 6 Sep 2026 | The panel reads its agent: a line of numbers under the bar with the context and the five-hour and weekly limits and when they reset, a light that says compacting and counts the helpers, the branch and the pull request on the header, the effort chosen inside the model menu with the agent's own names, and the bar's lists drawn over the window so they are whole at any width. |
| 0.2.7 | 5 Sep 2026 | What is copied is what was selected: in a block with an agent running, Cmd+C sometimes gave a strip of the agent's frame instead of the selected line, because the agent repaints its screen in place. The text is now taken the moment it is selected and kept until the selection is dropped. |
| 0.2.6 | 5 Sep 2026 | Copied text arrives as itself: Cyrillic and every other alphabet paste exactly as they were copied. Until now text taken out of a block by the program itself reached a chat as scrambled letters, because the clipboard was told the wrong encoding. |
| 0.2.5 | 4 Sep 2026 | A second place to ask for the newest version: when the download page cannot be reached, the program asks the same file in its public repository on GitHub, so a network that swallows one name no longer makes the check fail. In the list of past sessions an older day is written in the language of the window. |
| 0.2.4 | 3 Sep 2026 | The first question - how you work - shapes the window to the answer: a quiet look for programmers, the full set for working with agents, the essentials and the guide for a start. Six looks for programmers, four dark and two light. What changed, shown once after an update and kept behind the version number. The install line checks whose signature the file carries; a pressed update button goes away; a menu of the agent bar closes when you press elsewhere. |
| 0.2.3 | 3 Sep 2026 | Signed, notarised and stapled; the download page and the file every running copy reads for version news are written by the same script from the image that is actually there. |
| 0.2.2 | 3 Sep 2026 | A setting survives an update, and a check proves it rather than a reading of the code. Dictation names the language it is hearing in two letters. The monitor's address panel names the address the internet sees, with the machine's own below it. |
| 0.2.1 | 3 Sep 2026 | Read once more as an attacker would, the morning after the fault receiver went up. Four things closed, including a receiver address that reached curl as an argument, where a leading dash is a flag. |
| 0.2.0 | 2 Sep 2026 | One line that installs and updates. A copy of the settings in iCloud Drive. |
| 0.1.2 | 2 Sep 2026 | The settings folder as one archive, and back. Restoring sets the old folder aside rather than deleting it, and says so before it starts. |
| 0.1.1 | 2 Sep 2026 | Signed by Apple and notarised. A Mac that has never seen it opens it without a word. |
| 0.1.0 | 2 Sep 2026 | The first build handed out. Six days from the first window to a program somebody else could install. |
Dates are the day the build was made.
Before you install
Do I need administrator rights?
Not on a fresh Mac: the install line puts the app in your own Applications folder, ~/Applications, without a password. If vobuda is already in /Applications, replacing it there asks for your password, in a system window when there is no terminal to ask in. The .pkg installer asks the way any macOS package does.
Will macOS say the developer cannot be verified?
No. The build carries an Apple Developer ID signature, is notarised by Apple and the ticket is stapled to the installer, so it works on a machine that has never been online.
How do I update?
On a Mac, run the same install line again, or press Update on the strip the program puts above the layout when a new version is out; it checks once a day. Update installs the new version in the background, then offers a restart, which happens by itself after ten seconds if nothing is running. Nothing installs until you press. On Linux, take the new package from the release.
Is there a Homebrew formula?
Not yet. The install line is the supported route today.
What if I do not trust a piped shell script?
Take the .pkg instead, check its SHA-256 against the file above, and check its signature with pkgutil --check-signature. It should report a Developer ID Installer for Shifton Inc, trusted by the Apple notary service.
